Fort Payne Main Street: Why did you decide to start a business?
Paige: It was a family decision after I was laid off from my job due to Covid. It was the first time I had been unemployed since I was 15. For the past 16 years I had worked in pediatric therapy in DeKalb and Cherokee counties. I was numb because there were 9 children at home to support which in included a newborn and a 2-year-old with significant special needs that my husband and I had agreed to foster. Before I could drive home and talk with my husband, I was receiving calls from patients, and former co-workers encouraging me to open my own business. After talking with my husband, we began looking for real estate that very night.
Fort Payne Main Street: Why did you choose downtown Fort Payne as a place to locate your business?
Paige: We were fortunate to find a building on Grand Avenue NW that fit our needs for our business. I was out of town and my husband went to look at it, face timed me and we made an offer! I had not even seen it in person but we needed a location. We had clients waiting. It was important to get our insurance credentials and get to work. However, I could not be happier with owning a business downtown now that I am here. I could write paragraphs about the amazing experiences but some of the reasons we love being a part of Main Street: The general health and well-being of myself and staff. We sit outside in the fresh air to do documentation and eat lunch. We walk on our lunch breaks to restaurants, shopping and entertainment and the convenience of everything leaves us time to do yoga before returning to the afternoon schedule. Our parents appreciate the opportunity to have a little break while their child is receiving therapy. They can walk, go to the park, shop, go to the gym or grab a snack. The convenience of being downtown as well as the general vibe of Main Street has brought a smile to so many of our parents. Main Street has done an excellent job at making the area anesthetically pleasing and I love it.
Fort Payne Main Street: What advice would you give to women who are thinking of opening a business?
Paige: Do it! Gather your support team/system and go for it!! Don’t get too stressed, if you make a mistake you will learn from it. Keep your priorities right. God, Family, Business. All three are entangled with each other but make sure not to neglect the first two while running a business. You can do it!
