Jessica Edwards, Boxed Leaf Health Market
Fort Payne Main Street: Why did you decide to start a business?
Jessica: It was a family decision. We are very much in every way a family business. We wanted to offer hope as well as provide a natural approach to wellness for people and their furry friends.
Fort Payne Main Street: Why did you choose downtown Fort Payne as a place to locate your business?
Jessica: Fort Payne is our home and we wanted to be a part of the historic downtown community and events. It was the best choice for us.
Fort Payne Main Street: Was there a defining moment when you said yep…I’m going to do this?
Jessica: After my brother’s Alopecia Universalis diagnosis, he founded the Sparrow Clinic which is a holistic wellness clinic. We decided to open Boxed Leaf Health Market as a holistic store. It’s where you go to find high-quality supplements, and natural support for people and their furry friends. We also have products for those with special dietary needs. We have very high standards for our products. Due to this, our products are shipped all across the country and people drive hours to visit the store. You can order online at www.boxedleafco.com We are also on FaceBook.
Fort Payne Main Street: What advice would you give to women who are thinking of opening a business?
Jessica: My mom as a single parent was my inspiration and role model. I learned early there is nothing that can stop a woman if she has a passion for what she is doing. There will be setbacks, but learn from it and keep moving forward. Expect great things in your life. We have a sign at Boxed Leaf – “Be careful of what you expect out of life, you just might get it.”
The high point of owning the Boxed Leaf Health Market has been helping others. Helping someone have healthier options and achieve a goal is priceless. We also love being part of the community.
