Greetings and salutations from Fort Payne Main Street! We have a lot of exciting things that are bubbling and brewing in our beloved historic downtown district. There is nothing more satisfying than to see dreams become reality. I am talking of a direct result of people having a vision about downtown and making it happen. As I have said in previous articles there is a lot of planning and praying that goes on before anyone in the public sees the first bit of activity. I can tell you from being on the planning side on a lot of these projects the planning and praying are the most crucial.
I had the opportunity to spend a day last week with Kay Moore who is the Main Street Executive Director in Gadsden. Kay is “The” Main Street Director of Alabama! She has been at her job since 2007 and has Gadsden Main Street running like a well-oiled machine. Kay is organized and detailed in all she does. She has become my mentor on the art of downtown revitalization. Gadsden and Fort Payne are different but the approach is basically the same. We are here for the merchants and we want to help them become the most prosperous they can be.
There is an overwhelming love of our historic downtown. I know this is because our Main Street community tells me when I am out and about and on social media. There is truly a ground swell of community love and support for Fort Payne Main Street. We find that very exciting. I am also talking about our merchants new and old to whom we are so appreciative. The bottom line is that Main Street is all about our merchants and their success. We will keep pushing forward and not listen to negative vibes or doubters because that is what successful people do.
Well folks, it is never too early to start thinking about spring! I think that helps us get through these cold, gray winter days and that means the Fort Payne Main Street farmers market will be coming back to our great, convenient location. It will be located directly across from our historic Coal and Iron building on the corner of Fifth and Gault. Farmers Market 2019 applications are available for local farmers. I encourage all of my Fort Payne friends and family to come be a part of Fort Payne.
